Looking back at the 2013 Honey Pot Loppet, organized by Arctic Fox XC Ski Club. This loppet is held annually at Victoria Park, Truro. The Honey Pot Loppet is the longest running loppet in Nova Scotia, hosted by Arctic Fox XC Ski Club. Initiated by Dianne Powell and Bryan Scallion in the late 1970's, with fun and honey to go for. Current day event location is Victoria Park, Truro.

"Several Martock Nordic Ski Club members skied in the Honeypot Loppet today near Collingwood (Cobequid Pass area). Back in the days before pristine groomed Nordic trails, x-c skiers searched out the best trails they could find, like these beautiful snowmobile trails. All participants received a pot of honey for their efforts. Thanks to the Arctic Fox X-C Ski Club, the Cumberland Snowmobile Club, Dianne Powell, and Pierre Roy for hosting!"

What a fun event this was!! Great pics!

Lots of fun on a beautiful day on the Kouch trails! Still tons of snow there for next week's NS March Break.

Pleased to report we had a lovely informal/at-your-own-risk class at the Brunello bowl tonight - conditions were actually superb! There's still full coverage (about 4 inches of snow is my guess) and the snow is soft in most places (just a few small icy patches).
I think tomorrow (Tuesday) will be great for skiing too, but after that the rain may do us in - so consider tomorrow your last local chance!

Perfect. Great to hear

We are in an extended warm spell that started Feb 22. We have had only 2 sub zero days since then and multiple rain storms. The snow bowl has snow remaining but lots of ice at the top and some within the center. If it gets cold or we receive 5-10 cm of snow we will groom but the current forecast is grim.

It seems the season may be over for NS but we have had a good number of days of skiing in JAN and FEB also all our lessons were on snow this year. As always your support enables HNSC provide as many ski days as possible in HRM and Windsor areas.

There is a loppet in Cape North this weekend and NB has lots of snow.

I’m wondering the same thing.

yes me too, I have keen students! Unfortunately the Brunello website says it is closed for the season, which doesn't sound promising.... 🤨

Update: talked to Brunello - they've closed it as there are a few bare patches but they said ppl can ski at their own risk so i will be going at 4pm today to check it out. will try to remember to post again here but feel free to email me at info@outdooractive.ca if you want an update!

We have had 2 days of temps below zero since Feb 22 with 2 rain storms The top is a sheet of ice the bottom decent but there has been no window to regroom and with warm temps all week things will not improve. Amazing what is left given the last 20 days.

so I was just there this afternoon and there's pretty much full coverage and it's decently soft because of the warm weather today. i'm going to bring my class tonight! I would think it could be good for a few more days depending how much rain or hot sun comes.

i also think it could be ok skiing on Long Lake of st Margaret's Bay road - can't be sure as i didn't try it - but ice very thick and stable - was great ice skating yesterday - but the warmer weather has now created a soft slushy layer on top. if you feel like an experiment..... 🙂

see my independent post for a report on tonight's ski 🙂

So true Eric! What a sunset.I feel bad when I hear people complaining about winter, which comes every year in NS, when they could get outside & embrace it. Go cross country skiing & you get to end your day like this. Photo credit to Grâce McIntyre at Dollar Lake Provincial Park (campground) last night.
