And thank you to Melanie MacDermid for encouraging so many to take up this fun sport!

Be a part of tradition. The North Highlands Nordic loppet has been held EVERY year for the past 32 years. Dedicated volunteers, committed skiers, consistent snow, and the spirit of the loppet - all fuel this tradition. This year will be no different.

"The show must go on." NHN urges us to ski or snowshoe at NHN or whatever you choose in Nova Scotia or the world.

Nominate an HNSC volunteer who has made a difference today!!!Extraordinary people are the reason our sport continues to grow. They're behind groomed trails, program participant smiles, and the ease of signing-up from home computers. Many of the trails you ski today and people who are coaching your children, are descendants of historic volunteers... coaches, groomers, builders, helpers, and more.

Show your appreciation for volunteers by nominating someone who has gone above and beyond during the pandemic, to ensure you could enjoy cross-country skiing.

National street cred!!! Nice! The Annual Club Fundraiser is still on❗️

This week’s featured club is Halifax Nordic: “Halifax Nordic grooms trails at 7 different parks in the Halifax area and the Annapolis Valley for the enjoyment of our 800+ members and thousands of other skiers. This effort takes a huge commitment by our volunteer groomers and a huge financial commitment by the club to purchase and maintain grooming equipment for all of the trails. To make our trails even better, we want to purchase a new Ginzu groomer with 2 tracksetters so we can set a double classic track and beautiful corduroy.”

Cross Country Nova Scotia nice suits. 😉

We are in a weather time out for at least the next few days. This will give members the time to recover from all the skiing in February. Unfortunately we will need another dumping of snow to get back to grooming and skiing but we have had over 40 ski days at our various venues.

We are already putting in place plans to upgrade our equipment next for next season in at least 2 of our venues to improve and hasten the grooming process, this will ease the burden on our team of groomers(truth is they are happy in the cold and dark).

We are only able to do these upgrades because of the increased membership that HNSC has experienced in 2021.

Thank you to all our members for your support

Chapeau!

Great season so far! Well done!

Dollar Lake was spectacular today. If that was my last ski for awhile, it was a nice finish to this stretch of awesome skiing the past few weeks!

Avoid non-essential travel

Premier Iain Rankin and Dr. Robert Strang, the chief medical officer of health, asked Nova Scotians to avoid non-essential travel within the province and elsewhere, especially to and from restricted areas of the Halifax Regional Municipality, Hants County and Lunenburg County.

High Praise for the groomers!! Dollar Lake, with these conditions is definitely only for skiers with significant experience. ... See MoreSee Less

Can you please define « significant experience »? 😂

Is Dollar Lake considered to be within HRM?

Just back from Dollar Lake. Very appreciative of the groomers’ perseverance. The groomed portions were not at all icy but yes super-fast!

Roland was the biggest workhorse out there. Grooming team effort!

Curious- were there any remnants of classic tracks or are they all gone now?

Mark did an amazing job at Dollar Lake this morning. Conditions were excellent. The groomer breaks the surface into fine particles so no feeling of it being icy. Where the sun was shining it was glorious. ... See MoreSee Less

This is why we ask our skiers to avoid our venues during warm spells. We can't fix these 3 inch deep frozen ruts throughout the loop. We are grooming a 1 km loop in the driving range for today and tomorrow but the rest of Paragon XC is closed until further snow ... See MoreSee Less

This is part of the learning curve for users of the new venue. No one went out for a ski with the plan to mess up the trails. We just need new snow those holes

They can easily be fixed with some snow lol

Parks will be assessed in am. Best bets are Dollar and Paragon XC. We won't know until after 10 am if parks can be groomed for a couple more days of XC. ... See MoreSee Less

Any update yet on Dollar Lake?

Had a quick look at MSP this evening. Not looking good but will see what's there once it freezes.

Just so no ones travels to Paragon today, conditions have not firmed up enough to allow for either grooming or skiing. Paragon XC is closed till further notice. ... See MoreSee Less

We have the snow but temps did not fall low enough over night. We cannot groom without damaging the base. So we are closing Paragon XC to skiing and will not groom till Friday am when temps fall to -10.

Trails are to soft to ski without destroying the base.

All HNSC venues will be closed for a few more days.

Monday nights are busy at Brunello with Youth Programming with NS Ski Team members coaching and Adult Beginner and Intermediate lessons. ... See MoreSee Less

As usual we ask our members to avoid the trails while it is warm and wet.

2nd note there is no skiing with dogs at most of our venues, we do not have the snow depth and the dogs destroy the grooming. MSP is the spot to ski with your dogs.

Brunello no skiing with your dogs
Dollar lake no skiing with your dogs
Oakfield no skiing with dogs on XC only trails. Multipurpose is ok with a leash

Almost every groomer owns a dog but they never bring them
onto the groomed trails be like your friendly groomer if you like smooth trails.

Skiing with your dog in soft wet snow is also really hard on their shoulders - so do your dog & trail a favour and keep them off the multipurpose trails until the word goes out. Happier dogs & happier trails!
